Last Post for this semester

I'm gonna make a summary about my other posts.

From the first Ipod touch, to the Microsoft Surface. The next generartion of technology is here, to give us more freedom in expressing ourselves. Just think about the possibilities, the mass introduction of digital drawing, the simplicity of interacting without mouse to point, or writing without keyboard, to even a world without pressed key! and it will be called touched key!...

There is still a lot new technology out there that i will keep on informing to others, by means of my blog.

Reflection for this Semester's Web Based English

First of all, i want to say thank you to the teacher who taught this course. Mr Wei, Chin-lung.
I actually like this course. It gives me a precious opportunity to practice my presentation skill. eventhough i still can get nervous, I enjoy the opportunity to share what i like with my classmates, and hear what they wanted to share.

I get to know about Amy Winehouse, how she got famous, and her songs.
I love High School Musical!
Lead a healthy life is good for everyone.
I understand more about fashion.
and because of that blog about tea, i became a tea specialist in my family!
Egyptian mummies! so scary.
and the short movie about table manner, Laugh Out Loud!

And lastly, i want to say sorry to the teacher for the bad attendance mark.

Next Gen in OLPC

We might have heard about OLPC, which stands for One Laptop Per Child.

Is an idea started by an MIT media lab engineer, which purpose is to educate every children in the world, especially developing nations to use a computer, to express themselves, and to connect to the internet.

as in november 2007, this gadget is already in mass production, and Uruguay is already the first nation to mass deploy the laptop.

This Laptop, which is also called XO-1 laptop, can be sold to governments and issued to children by schools on a basis of one laptop per child. Pricing is currently set to start at US$188 and the goal is to reach the $100 mark in 2008.

But the many innovations in the XO may also end up changing the world of technology.

High durability thanks to thick plastic design, and membrane keyboard.

It has a newly developed LCD screen. which can be read in direct bright sunlight.

Specially designed wireless internetworking, the laptop can direct connection from other XO.

It uses only 2 Watt of power on average, compared to 15 watt of average laptop.

Surface Computing

Here comes the next generation of computer. A generation where a computer won't become a computer like we used to use, where there will be no mouse and no keyboard connected.
So, you ask, what will we use to communicate with the computer?

Touch!

Ever wanted to use a computer in which the whole screen is also the user interface?
Starting from Jeff Han presentation about his invention in 2006 TED in Monterey, California.

to the recent Microsoft' Surface which was announced in May 29 2007.

"Surface turns an ordinary tabletop into a vibrant, dynamic surface that provides effortless interaction with all forms of digital content through natural gestures, touch and physical objects. Beginning at the end of this year, consumers will be able to interact with Surface in hotels, retail establishments, restaurants and public entertainment venues.
The intuitive user interface works without a traditional mouse or keyboard, allowing people to interact with content and information on their own or collaboratively with their friends and families, just like in the real world. Surface is a 30-inch display in a table-like form factor that small groups can use at the same time. From digital finger painting to a virtual concierge, Surface brings natural interaction to the digital world in a new and exciting way
. "

Surface feature 4 key attributes:
•Direct interaction. Users can actually “grab” digital information with their hands, interacting with content by touch and gesture, without the use of a mouse or keyboard.
•Multi-touch. Surface computing recognizes many points of contact simultaneously, not just from one finger like a typical touch-screen, but up to dozens of items at once.
•Multi-user. The horizontal form factor makes it easy for several people to gather around surface computers together, providing a collaborative, face-to-face computing experience.
•Object recognition. Users can place physical objects on the surface to trigger different types of digital responses, including the transfer of digital content.

New Revolution in Television

LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) TV is today's television for the masses, because it's cheap to produce, and does not require the advanced technology in semiconductor production usually used in CPU production.
LCD monitor, LCD TV, Cellphone display, Digital Camera display, Laptop display, even Ipod uses LCD for it's display.
But that will change.

As the OLED(Organic Light Emitting Diode) production technology matures, the price for production will slowly down to the level of LCD's, and it will become mainstream.

Materials in an OLED display emit light when an electrical current is applied. Because of their luminescent nature, OLED displays don't require a backlight, consume less power and can result in thinner screens than LCDs, which are currently favored in the flat-panel industry.

They also free from the viewing angle restriction problem of LCD panels.

~Sony recently announced their new OLEDTV series for the masses.
at Computer Electronic Show (CES) 2007 in LasVegas, Nevada
  1. Specs:Resolution: 1024*600 for 11 inches, 1920*1080 for 27 inches
  2. Contrast Ratio more than 1000.000 :1

  3. Brightness 200cd/m2

  4. Color difference: 10bit for 27 inches, 8 bit for 11 inches.

Sony released plans for the SonyDrive XEL-1, the first ever OLED TV. It's 3mm thin, 11" 960x540 television. With 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, built-in digital tuner, speakers, HDMI, USB and Ethernet jacks. It weights 2kg and will have a retail price of 200.000 yen when it is released in December, Japan only.
